Frogs and Snails and Puppy-Dogs' Tails

(ohdeedoh)

(Apartment Therapy)

I honestly don't know what I would do with a little boy's room in my place...but I think these are pretty cute. It looks like they could fit in with the rest of the house, and yet there is still something masculine about each one. Do you have boys? How did you decorate their bedrooms?

Nuts About Nurseries

Better Homes & Gardens

(decorology)

No, I'm not pregnant, but I still love to swoon over nurseries. If you have kids, how did you decorate the nursery? It seems like back in the day, people used to do pink or blue - depending on the gender of course - and now, there is so much variety! People do everything from pastels, to bold colors, to brown walls, to vintage, cottage, shabby chic, to sleek and modern. As much as I like to re-decorate, it's much better on the budget when you can create a nursery that will still work when your bambino turns eight!

Adorable.

Adorable. Love the elephant bedding, the wallpaper (although I can't say that I would have put the two together), the striped rug, and the floor cushion. Adorable.

I Spy...Something Colorful

(Sussie Bell)

(hiccupings)

(Cottage Living)

I'm sure you have noticed that I love kid rooms - and frankly, I think they're inspiring. Generally, the colors are cheerful, and accessories are just plain fun! I think we're most creative with kid rooms because we want them to remember their personal space as a happy place, and one that inspired them to play for hours. This may sound a little absurd, but it may even be possible that we believe their space will somehow affect what they do, or become in the future - do you think?! Did you notice that these rooms all have the same rug? It's a great one for adding color to any space.
Guess where you can find the rug! Surprised?! (Click on "where" to see the site.)

Cute Color

This seems to be my latest color obsession. I just can't get enough of this palette! My color preferences tend to change with the season, so if you're sick of pastels - you'll have to check back with me in the Fall. These are a few photos of a girl's room that I am loving - for the colors.

LOVE the lantern, rug, floor cushions, color palette...

Cute lamb painting. At least I think it's a lamb! I would love to have my 4-year-old paint something similar on a canvas.

Fulfilling Resolutions

I had three unofficial New Year's resolutions for 2009. One was to start a blog...Mission accomplished! The second was to exercise on a regular basis. We got a brand new Wii Fit the other night, so I'll keep you posted on the outcome of that one. Third, I want to learn how to knit. I'm guessing I'll need to start with a scarf...but maybe someday - if I get really good, I could make one of these pillows or dolls?! I'm getting ahead of myself here, but maybe I'll even make them as gifts. If you're anxious to own one - I can promise, you don't want to wait on me! You can find them at Land of Nod, or Bla Bla Kids. Aren't they cute?

Peekin' on Pickin' - Maggie & Kyle's Place

Last summer, we went to a cookout at Maggie and Kyle's place - some friends we met through Church. I absolutely fell in love with their home, and they were gracious enough to give me a complete tour! Recently, I asked if she would mind sharing photos on my blog, and I can't thank her enough for taking the time to photograph their fabulous house! I am so excited to share this special post with you today - so, wipe your feet, and come on in! Please don't forget to sign the guestbook! (a.k.a. Comments)

Maggie told me that it's a Sears Kit Home, and I have created a link so that you can read about its significance. I think you'll find it fascinating. I did!
Maggie and Kyle did a wonderful job renovating the kitchen.
They refer to this room as the "snack shack", because it is right off the kitchen, and the kids like to eat their bedtime snack in here. Cute, huh?!
The living room -
and another one -
I believe the office is right off the living room. I love the black sofa with the green walls.

Don't you just love the chandelier in the dining room?! I think this photo is magazine-worthy.
Another view of the dining room.
The kids' playroom - I love the flags hanging above the windows.
Maggie's craft nook on the second floor - Isn't it wonderful?!

Her inspiration board (and I'm not talking about the one on the left!) -
It would be great to have a fireplace in the Master bedroom.
I don't think I have to tell you - this is a bathroom! I believe Maggie said that is the original tile on the floor. It was so cute.
These next few are from her little girl's bedroom. We're not really sure about the proper name for the bed, but it's so unique.
It opens into a second bed...almost like a trundle.
A few more views of her daughter's room -

Their son's room -
The attic space - I believe this is Kyle's "man cave", and the kids have a few of their toys up here as well.
I didn't ask, but I'm guessing it may be used as a guest room at times.
Thanks for visiting, and don't forget to sign the "guestbook"!

Peekin' on Pickin' - Kalia's Room

Yes! I Love pillows. You can never have too many!

This was one of my very first "antique" finds. I found a set of two, and I still love them!

I found my daughter's nightstand at a flea market in Illinois.

This chair was a hideous color of pink (and I love pink!), so I had it reupholstered in a minty green toile.

A kindred spirit (as Anne would say) introduced me to Huldah Cherry, and I love her paintings in my daughter's bedroom. When I was pregnant, I found one with a mother and daughter, so that one holds a special place in my heart.

I just wanted to include a better angle of the chair!

My mom actually tried to talk me out of this bucket at a flea market, but I just knew I had to have it. I'm so glad I followed my heart on this one! We used to use it for diaper storage.

Maybe it's just me, but I think it's so fun to visit a friend's home for the first time, and get a little tour of the place! Every once in a while, I would love to be able to peek inside "real" homes here on Pickin' Cute...and I thought we could start with mine. I chose to share my daughter's room first, since it's probably my favorite. Come on in!
