Born Into Brothels

Since our 4-year-old goes to bed around 8 o'clock, we're a little bit limited on our weekend entertainment options. We usually end up watching movies - or playing a little backgammon together. This past Friday, we flipped through "On Demand" for free movies, and found Born Into Brothels. My dear friend Sara is very interested in the sex trafficking issues in India, and actually spent several months there doing some mission work, and Randy and I were intrigued by the movie description. I was a little uneasy about the title, and wondered if it was going to be overly graphic.

We watched the entire documentary, and didn't have any regrets! Well, I guess we had one. We regretted the fact that we couldn't adopt all the children in the movie. It was a wonderful story about a photographer who decided to spend some time in a brothel, and taught the children living there how to use a camera. She sent them out to photograph the world from their perspective, and attempted to get them into schools and a better way of life. We just fell in love with the kids, and their photos were pretty amazing as well! You can purchase their work at http://www.kids-with-cameras.org/ to help support their education.

If you haven't seen the movie, I should warn you that it was pretty heart wrenching. It's just unbelievable how some of the mothers treat the children. I would love to hear your thoughts on the movie if you've seen it already - or once you do!
